My assorted personal creative endeavors. I’m always up to learning something new or picking up where I left off with previous mediums/projects/etc.
Sometime in Q4 of last year I purchased a used Delta midi-sized lathe - but Surprise(!) - the lathe is only a fraction of the things you need. So I…
Plus more carvings and camping…
Its been a nice fall with some busy times and some breaks as well, so here’s mostly a photo-recap…
It’s been a nice and relatively productive spring here, busy enough to keep the timing moving along quickly but not so busy that there hasn’t been a few chances to enjoy the time…
Back in mid September I started an update to my workspace in the garage with the goal of putting up a french cleat wall to make more efficient use of the space…
I’ve been having a blast exploring woodcarving. This post is well overdue but will keep it short and sweet. I’ve carved a few more than 60 characters so far and finding my style while exploring different techniques. I’ve also carved a fun space for the robots I’m creating, carving wooden greebles is something new and pure fun.
Meet the Characters!
Each character is named and I’m keeping a list of numbers just for the fun of it. Here’s a front 3/4 shot of each so far. More pics can…
A quick highlight reel of the last few month’s creative explorations…
…I started the next phase in the Yarden project. That included a small retaining wall above the sprinkler box and a full run of…
This multi-part series documents our backyard “Yarden” project(s) for our own interest and hopefully yours as well!
…weeks into work from home due to the ‘rona and days are definitely running together. Sad to have missed prime desert camping season, but we’re doing ok other than being a bit stir-crazy. Work has changed quite a bit, its busy and we have adapted much of our workflow and…
Writing this from a sunny Saturday in Southern California where the freeways are wide open and everything is basically shut down due…
Another little decor project to match our photo wall and a flower press for our upcoming trip to CO.
We make it a point to take ‘ussies’ when we’re out and about and have a stack of prints that is always growing. Rather than just keep them in a box we wanted a fun photo/memory wall. Pinterest provided a range of ideas and I took inspiration from here and there then set about…
I started working with a tablet app called Procreate after seeing a buddy at the office (@wafflegripper) do some drawing on his iPad. Its been a…

...Back in January we went to check out Bricks LA, a Southern California Lego fan's utopia. I totally got bit by the MOC bug. In LegoLanguage a MOC is "My Own Creation" and something built from imagination and exploration. The Bricks LA event was fun for all ages and as an...
...to make it a project and dig deeper, so purchased a quality clear fish tank and commercial grade food coloring, a few other supplies and began experimenting...
Just a quick post with some recent Caesin painting explorations. Really digging this medium so here's a few pics of some recent work.
...this version of Zucchini Lasagna has become a favorite. A cheesy, zesty, tomatoey favorite...
Going from a truck to a SUV made me rework my camping gear, and that included making a smaller Chuckbox (camp kitchen). I had also changed stoves from a larger Coleman to a smaller Cook Partner steel stove, so my old Yellow Chuckbox was a bit big and...
I always find inspiration when I get out of town and have the time to see things and explore, and the Southwest is one of my favorite places to find this inspiration. On my recent vacation, I loved looking at the Native American vendor’s beadwork but my brain would always say “Lets do that.”, so rather than buying a piece I ended up buying the stuff to make it...
Had the opportunity to do a bit of painting while on vacation visiting my folks so experimented with Caesin (a new medium to me) as well as some Gouache. Caesin is a water based milk protein based paint, is quick drying as well as maintains a bit of a body when its dry. Gouache is also...
I’ve been feeling the need to create some original artwork as something of a creative outlet lately so decided to take on a full-sheet (30″ x 22″) watercolor project. Its been years since I’ve worked this scale in watercolor. I had experimented with some smaller geometric watercolors and knew that I wanted to take this bigger. So, here we go…
Its been several months since I did any stained glass work, fortunately I remedied that this weekend. I had a rough idea and also wanted to make this be my biggest piece yet. So I began with some sketches in an application called Concept. Sketching on the iPad will take some getting used to, but its something...
I was rummaging through the art closet this week and ran across a number of watercolors that I did in late fall and early winter 2014 and realized...
The Little Red Rust Bucket (LRRB for short) came into existence in the spring and summer of 2011 after doing research for months on small adventure / expedition trailers. They’re available for purchase but tend to be pretty pricey so I decided...
I applied in mid 2009 and was granted a two week stay (they prefer a four week residency but that wasn’t possible for me). I loaded up my ride (then a Subaru Outback XT) and headed out through Death Valley to Rhyolite. As part of the residency...
