Character Carving, Cont., 8.21

I’ve been having a blast exploring woodcarving. This post is well overdue but will keep it short and sweet. I’ve carved a few more than 60 characters so far and finding my style while exploring different techniques. I’ve also carved a fun space for the robots I’m creating, carving wooden greebles is something new and pure fun.

Along the way I’ve begun attending a few different carving gatherings. One larger meeting with a range of carvers at a local club. The meetings are loosely structured, but there is a bit of organization. It’s been neat to be part of this group. The other meetup is at the home of a really experienced and remarkable carver, who is also a knife maker. It’s been rewarding and humbling to spend time with him and his fellow carvers. So much to learn and they’re glad to share knowledge.

Anyway, onto some carvings!

Then there was this…

The robots needed their own space, so I carved this little Robot Lab. Fun to carve and paint, and especially fun for photos. Wooden Greebles, who would have thought… ;)

And this… my woodcarving tote

With attending a couple of different carving groups I found that I needed something better to carry my knives and gouges back and forth in a more efficient manner. So I started looking online at carving totes/etc. There wasn’t a lot of them out there, but after surfing quite a bit I decided on this format. Some sketches, a foamcore mock-up and a bunch of work in the garage later and here’s what I’ve come up with.

Looking forward to working out of this, less packing/unpacking/repacking between carving meets and carving at home.

Thanks for reading, I know this was a lot packed into a little space!
