Catching Wildflowers, 03.17

Southern California deserts saw substantial rain this year and the wildflowers are exploding out there. I was keeping an eye on the wildflower reports and this Saturday was the perfect time to make a day trip of it.

We left home at six and made our way out to the Borrego Springs area and Anza Borrego State Park. Us and thousands of other folks chasing wildflowers. It was packed out there, especially around the circle. Coincidentally there was an art fair happening at the circle so we walked through all the booths. Some nice original work and some not so much.

Once you got a bit away from the crowds it was pretty peaceful. We found a few dead end trails and explored the neat “Sky Art” sculptures that are scattered throughout the area for a few hours, including a nice little coffee break with a small french press on the back of the truck!

If you’ve not been out there it’s definitely a great way to spend an afternoon or a full day. Take water and sunscreen! If you have time in the next week or two and a feee weekday, I’d recommend getting out there while the wildflowers are at their peak.

Anyway – onto a couple pics...

Psst - there are a few more over here.
