Non-Wedding Photographer shoots a Wedding, 07.15

First off, thanks to the Bride and Groom and the Skewers, the whole event was a blast!

Secondly, I think wedding photographers have something of a bad rap. That is serious work, and its not over when the wedding is done. I run location shoots complete with stylists, crews, talent, etc. a bunch of times a year and shooting the ceremony and other festivities is more work on the spot than location action shoots. To do it right you need a wrangler (thanks Amber) and an assistant/second shooter if you really want to cover everything.

The wrangler lets the photographer shoot and be in the moment, without that person you're going to miss some key shots. Doing a walk-through at the location with the critical parties was also super critical to understanding the flow of the event. Our video producer and my location-cohort from the office also got recruited for the event. Being able to talk through shots and camera/crew placements was essential. 

Like I said, this is not what I shoot and at a critical moment I found myself shooting from the wrong side of the Bride, and no option but to cross in front, between the wedding party and the guests. When I heard the minister ask for the rings I knew that was the moment and hustled my way across.
